Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White announced Wednesday that star guard Kelsey Mitchell will miss approximately two weeks of action after being diagnosed with a minor concussion sustained during Tuesday night’s 101-95 win over the Toronto Tempo.
Mitchell, the WNBA’s second-leading scorer averaging 24.3 points per game, left the floor late in the third quarter at Scotiabank Arena and did not return. She finished with 29 points on efficient 11-of-16 shooting, including four three-pointers, extending her streak of consecutive 20-point games to a league-record-tying 20.
White confirmed the diagnosis after further evaluation by the team’s medical staff. “Kelsey is dealing with a minor concussion,” White said. “We’re fortunate it’s not more serious, but we’re going to be very cautious and follow all concussion protocols. She’ll be out for about two weeks as we prioritize her long-term health.”
The incident occurred in an atypically warm arena environment during the Fever’s fifth straight victory. Mitchell had been dominant early, pouring in 16 points in the first quarter alone before the abrupt exit. Caitlin Clark stepped up with 24 points and seven assists to help seal the win, while Aliyah Boston added 16 points and six rebounds.
Mitchell’s absence will test the Fever’s depth as they continue a strong 2026 campaign. The 30-year-old Ohio State product has been a cornerstone for Indiana, providing consistent scoring and leadership alongside Clark and Boston. Her scoring streak had drawn national attention, matching a mark previously set by Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson.
White emphasized the team’s approach: “We’ve seen how important rest and recovery are. Kelsey has given us everything this season. Now it’s our job to make sure she’s fully ready when she returns.”
The Fever next face the Dallas Wings on Thursday. No timeline has been set for Mitchell’s return beyond the two-week estimate, and the team will provide further updates as she progresses through the protocol.
Fans and teammates have already expressed support for the veteran guard, hoping for a swift and complete recovery as Indiana pushes toward the postseason.
