Rookie Olivia Miles Ejected After Consecutive Technicals in Chippy Clash with Liberty ….

Minnesota Lynx rookie standout Olivia Miles was ejected in the third quarter of Friday night’s matchup against the New York Liberty after picking up two consecutive technical fouls while arguing a rebound foul call.

The incident unfolded midway through the period at Target Center. Miles, the energetic point guard known for her intensity and signature glasses, battled for a loose ball on the glass. When the official whistled a foul against her on the rebound attempt, Miles immediately protested, gesturing and voicing her disagreement with the referee. The first technical came quickly. Seconds later, as she continued to argue the call while walking toward the official, a second technical was assessed, automatically ejecting the second-year professional from the game under WNBA rules.

Teammates and coaches quickly intervened as Miles was escorted toward the locker room. The Target Center crowd reacted with a mix of boos directed at the officials and supportive cheers for the fiery rookie who has emerged as one of the league’s most dynamic young players this season.

Miles entered the night averaging nearly 20 points and six assists per game, leading the Lynx in several key categories and remaining a frontrunner for Rookie of the Year honors. Her competitive edge has been both a strength and an occasional liability; she had previously drawn technical fouls earlier in the season for similar on-court frustration.

Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve was measured afterward, emphasizing the need for composure. “Liv plays with passion—that’s what makes her special,” Reeve said. “But we have to channel that energy productively. The officials are part of the game, and we leave those conversations to the coaching staff.”

The ejection left Minnesota without its primary playmaker for the remainder of the contest against a Liberty squad featuring Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu. The game remained physical throughout, consistent with the hard-nosed style both teams have displayed this season.

For Miles, the ejection serves as another learning moment in a breakout rookie campaign. At 23, the former TCU and Notre Dame star has already shown she can impact games at both ends while drawing defensive attention night after night. Managing emotions under the bright lights of the WNBA remains part of the growth process.

The Lynx, who entered the night with the league’s best record, will look to bounce back quickly as the regular season winds toward the playoffs. Miles is expected to be available for the team’s next outing, though she may face a fine under league technical foul guidelines.

Friday’s ejection added another chapter to a season defined by Miles’ fearless style—and the occasional price that comes with it.
