Indiana Fever Land Veteran Star DeWanna Bonner in Bold Move Ahead of October WNBA Playoffs …

In a stunning late-season roster shakeup, the Indiana Fever announced Monday they have signed six-time All-Star and two-time WNBA champion DeWanna Bonner, adding proven postseason firepower as the team gears up for the 2026 playoffs set to tip off in October.

The 6-foot-4 forward, who spent recent seasons with the Connecticut Sun, joins a Fever squad already featuring Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, and Kelsey Mitchell. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but sources indicated Bonner agreed to a short-term contract that keeps her available through the postseason and potential Finals run.

Fever general manager Amber Cox called the signing “a statement of intent.”

“DeWanna is a winner,” Cox said in a statement. “She brings championship experience, elite scoring, and the kind of defensive versatility that elevates a team when the lights are brightest. With the playoffs approaching, this was a move we felt we had to make.”

Bonner, 36, averaged 17.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists last season while shooting 42 percent from the field. A former Finals MVP with the Phoenix Mercury, she is widely regarded as one of the league’s most clutch performers in elimination games.

Fever head coach Christie Sides expressed excitement about integrating the veteran.

“We’ve watched DeWanna dominate for years,” Sides said. “Her ability to stretch the floor, finish through contact, and mentor younger players will be huge for us. Caitlin and Aliyah already give us elite talent—adding DeWanna creates matchup nightmares.”

Bonner herself sounded motivated.

“I’m ready to compete for another title,” she said. “Indiana has a special group. The energy around this team is real, and I want to be part of writing the next chapter.”

The Fever currently sit in strong position in the Eastern Conference standings. With the regular season winding down, the addition of Bonner is expected to solidify their status as a legitimate championship contender when the playoffs begin in October.

Fans at Gainbridge Fieldhouse will get their first look at the new-look roster in the final weeks of the regular season. If Bonner’s track record is any indication, October could be electric in Indianapolis.
