Indiana Fever Forward Monique Billing  Has Ejected After Punching Chicago Sky’s KouLibaly in the Face …

What began as a hard-fought WNBA matchup between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky erupted into chaos late in the third quarter when Fever forward Monique Billing was ejected for striking Sky center KouLibaly square in the face.

With 3:47 remaining and the Fever trailing by six, Billing and KouLibaly tangled under the basket for a rebound. Officials initially signaled a common foul, but video review and the immediate reaction of players and coaches told a different story. Replays clearly showed Billing’s right fist connecting with KouLibaly’s left cheek, sending the 6-foot-4 center stumbling backward into the paint.

Sky head coach Tyler marsh immediately charged the court, demanding an ejection. After a lengthy conference, the officiating crew upgraded the call to a Flagrant 2 foul and ejected Billing. KouLibaly remained on the floor for several minutes receiving attention from trainers before walking to the locker room under her own power. She later returned for the final period with a visible bruise and ice pack.

Fever coach Stephanie white called the decision “overly harsh” and said Billing was merely fighting for position. “Monique is one of the toughest competitors in this league. Contact happens. This wasn’t intentional,” Sides said postgame. Billing herself declined comment while leaving the arena, though a teammate was overheard saying the veteran “reacted to being grabbed first.”

Chicago’s was far less restrained. “You don’t put hands on somebody’s face like that and expect to stay in the game,” Reese said. “Kou is our sister. We protect our own.”

The Sky went on to win 89-82, improving their record while the Fever dropped their third straight. The league office is expected to review the play further and could levy additional discipline on Billing, who already carries a history of physical play.

Social media lit up within minutes of the ejection, with fans and former players debating whether the punch was deliberate or the result of a heated scramble. Regardless of intent, the image of Billing’s fist meeting KouLibaly’s face is already the defining moment of an otherwise ordinary midseason game — and one that will be replayed for days.
