Celtic Park Evacuated After Gas Explosion Sparks Fire Outside Stadium..

Emergency services rushed to Celtic Park this morning after a suspected gas explosion outside the stadium triggered a fire that sent thick black smoke billowing into the Glasgow sky.

The blast occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. near the main approach roads in Parkhead, close to the Emirates Arena. Witnesses reported a sudden loud boom followed by flames leaping from a ruptured gas main or nearby utility installation. The fire quickly spread to nearby fencing and debris, prompting an immediate response from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

Two fire appliances and police units arrived within minutes. Crews worked to contain the blaze while officers secured the perimeter and diverted traffic along the Clyde Gateway. Thick smoke drifted toward the stadium stands, leading to a precautionary evacuation of early staff and maintenance workers already on site. No match was scheduled, and the ground was largely empty at the time.

Authorities confirmed no injuries. A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We received reports of an explosion and subsequent fire outside Celtic Park. Appliances attended promptly, the fire was brought under control, and there are no casualties. Investigations into the exact cause are ongoing.”

Police Scotland closed sections of the surrounding roads while engineers from the gas network operator assessed the site. Early indications point to a possible fault in underground infrastructure, though a full inquiry will determine the precise origin.

Celtic Football Club issued a short statement thanking emergency services for their swift action and confirming that stadium operations would resume once the area is declared safe. Local residents described the scene as dramatic but orderly, with fans and passers-by kept well clear.

The incident caused temporary disruption in Glasgow’s east end but was contained without further spread. Investigations continue as of this morning.
