The NBA Western Conference is living up to its “Wild West” nickname once again, with just two games left in the regular season and chaos still reigning in the standings. While a handful of teams have locked in playoff spots, seeding is far from settled—and several franchises are clinging to hopes of escaping the Play-In Tournament.
Among those in the thick of the race: the Los Angeles Lakers.
After a rollercoaster season filled with injuries, lineup changes, and big-time performances, the Lakers are currently fighting for positioning. They sit somewhere between the 7th and 10th spots, where just a single win or loss can swing their postseason path dramatically. LeBron James continues to defy Father Time, leading the team with consistency, while Anthony Davis has been a defensive anchor. But inconsistency from the supporting cast and defensive lapses have made it difficult to string together momentum.
The final two games are now critical—not just for playoff qualification, but for avoiding a one-and-done scenario in the Play-In. The Lakers will need to win out and hope for favorable outcomes from teams ahead of them like the Mavericks, Kings, and Suns.
With the West still unpredictable, anything can happen. But one thing’s for sure: fans are in for a wild finish, and the Lakers are in survival mode.
