A cloud of shock and concern settled over CommBank Stadium tonight as Parramatta Eels head coach Jason Ryles collapsed on the sidelines during the second half of the team’s NRL clash against the Cronulla Sharks.
The incident occurred in the 58th minute with the Eels trailing 22–12. Witnesses say Ryles appeared visibly unsteady before suddenly dropping to one knee and collapsing. Medical personnel rushed to his side within seconds as stunned players, staff, and fans looked on in disbelief.
According to early reports from club officials, Ryles suffered a suspected cardiac event, though the full extent of his condition remains unknown. He was taken from the field on a stretcher and transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.
“The mood in the locker room was somber,” said Eels captain Mitchell Moses post-match. “The game didn’t matter anymore. Everyone just wanted to know he was okay.”
Assistant coach Trent Barrett stepped in to finish the game, which ended in a 28–18 loss for the Eels. The club has yet to release an official medical update but has asked for privacy while Ryles undergoes treatment.
Fans have flooded social media with messages of support using the hashtag #PrayForRyles, and rival clubs have also extended their well wishes.
