Palace stunned the visitors just 3 minutes in when Jean-Philippe Mateta slotted home a tidy finish after a defensive lapse. But the early blow only seemed to spark City into life, and it wasn’t long before De Bruyne stamped his authority on the match.
The Belgian maestro equalized with a sublime curling effort from outside the box in the 13th minute, marking his 100th goal for Manchester City in all competitions. From that point on, City controlled possession and tempo, with De Bruyne orchestrating the midfield.
